My latest discovery is a Mexico City-based tattooist, collector and artist, Dr. Lakra (translation: Doctor Delinquent). His real name is Jeronimo Lopez Ramirez and he’s an avid collector of antiquated prints and ephemera. What he does with all his ephemera is something quite arresting…
Dr Lakra is best-known for his superimposed tattoo and pen drawings over images featuring pin-up girls. There’s something so brilliant about the twist of glamorous ladies of Hollywood’s golden age covered in tribal and mystical tattoos. What is typically so classic and commercially-pleasing, suddenly becomes so very occult, edgy and modern.
