Ghost World (2001)
In a nutshell: A quirky comic book adaptation about social outsiders.
Why should you care: Scarlett Johansson, pre-Hollywood sex symbol is in it, as well as Thora Birch and the legend Steve Buscemi.

The Imposter (2012)
In a nutshell: A smart and twisted documentary about an incredible true story of a Frenchman who pretended to be an American boy that disappeared in Texas as a child.
Why should you care: It will leave your jaw on the floor.

The Dreamers (2003)
In a nutshell: A sexy Bertolucci film set in Paris
Why should you care: Eva Green will make you melt.

Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999)
In a nutshell: A dark comedy about a teen beauty pageant
Why should you care: Denise Richards, Kirsten Dunst, Amy Adams get in a cat fight.

Sideways (2004)
In a nutshell: Two guys on a week long road trip through California’s wine country
Why should you care: It’s a perfect for winos, unexpectedly hilarious.

End of Watch (2012)
In a nutshell: A LAPD cop drama with surprising heart. Flew under most people’s radar last year.
Why should you care: It’s probably one of the best cop movies ever made and Jake Gyllenhall is in it.

Lolita (1999)
In a nutshell: The 90s adaptation of Vladimir Nabokov’s novel about an older man who falls for an adolescent young girl.
Why should you care: It could be your most inappropriate favourite movie.

In a nutshell: Bob Dylan – not your typical biopic.
Why should you care: Cate Blanchett is the best man-roling actress ever.

French Kiss (1995)
In a nutshell: Meg Ryan does her goofy cute thing in France, Kevin Kline has a French accent.
Why should you care: If you dream about retiring early in France, proceed to watch this.

Headhunters (2011)
In a nutshell: A cross between the Thomas Crown Affair and Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
Why should you care: The Swedish make awesome action thrillers, oh and Jamie Lannister from Game of Thrones is in it.

Slums of Beverly Hills (1998)
In a nutshell: A comically dysfunctional family living in 1970s Beverly Hills.
Why should you care: Lots of hilarious awkward moments and it’s probably one of the most underrated independant films of the 90’s.

Singing in the Rain (1952)
In a nutshell: A technicolor treat about the movie business starring Gene Kelly.
Why should you care: The classic of all classics; it’s got fun fashion, music, dancing, an insight into old Hollywood. Not just a musical.

L’Amour Fou (2011)
In a nutshell: A documentary detailing the 50 year relationship of Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé, and the record-breaking auction of their massive collection of art and objet d’art.
Why should you care: It’s a front row seat into the private world of an icon, a collector, an artist.
