An incredible story landed in my email inbox this morning via the Guardian website. The Adidas product research team have shared their tale of how they came to discover an incredible treasure trove of vintage sneakers, stocked with countless styles thought lost forever by the sportswear brand; missing from their own archives. Piled high in dusty boxes from floor to ceiling in a run-down Buenos Aires store owned by a 75 year-old shopkeeper called Carlos, the shoes have been sitting there untouched for some 30 odd years (some in better condition than others). By chance, someone sent photographs of the Aladdin’s cave to the Adidas UK team who wasted no time in embarking on what was to be an unforgettable journey into the past…
A documentary has been released to tell the story
Adidas expert Gary Asden went on the trip to Buenos Aires and narrates the video. He’s always constantly on the hunt for vintage deadstock sneakers and his Twitter account is a pretty interesting one to follow. You’re probably curious to find out why Carlos Ruiz’s Adidas stock remained in a timewarp so you can find the full article over at The Guardian.
Thanks for the tip Brian!
