Mountains, beaches, shopping, midnight dinners, and more; these shots make us nostalgic for early photojournalism and magazine covers with smiling vacationers, vintage wardrobes, and the irresistible happiness that they impose.
LIFE’s Michael Rougier spent his summer away from the stereotypical European beaches on the quiet shores of the modern-day Balkans. Wealthy vacationers even brought their cars with them to properly enjoy all that Yugoslavia had to offer.
Sunbathing and spending as much time as possible in the water seems to have been everyone’s favorite pastime…
