The real estate classifieds are one of my favourite places to linger on the internet these days. You can come across anything from Victorian time capsule homes for sale to a Victorian axe murderess’ mansion up for grabs; big empty Italian castles to private islands complete with Nazi castles– property listings really do provide much more drama and entertainment than you might think. Today, while I have no murder mansions to report, I did find this elaborate and rather whimsical home for sale, calling to my innermost instincts to retire from the real world, move into a lighthouse replica and live the life aquatic à la Steve Zissou.
Nestled at the end of a private drive through pine forest, a lighthouse-themed retreat is up for sale on Lake Superior overlooking the Apostle Islands in the state of Wisconsin for $2,250,000.
And in the true spirit of Steve Zissou, don’t expect to have to get any real work done as captain of your nautical abode. For the watch room serves as little more than a book lover’s reading nook…
Grab a stool, pour yourself a fresh pint at the boat wood bar, share your tales from the high seas with the real Steve Zissou…
The unusual house was built in 2000 by TEA2, a midwestern architectural firm, renowned for building things like English Manors and Italianate villas in the middle of Minnesota.
The property also comes with a first-class boat barn with workshop/living/office space and sauna. Outside, you’ve got over fourteen acres with a picturesque walking trail leading to the quaint, seaside village of Bayfield.
